My Story

Monty is an independent producer, filmmaker, a production and historical military specialist, author and archivist for LA County Military Veterans Affairs, Bob Hope Patriotic Hall.

Monty grew up in San Francisco’s North Beach / Chinatown. As a young boy, he listened to stories told to him by an uncle who was a paratrooper with the 82nd Airborne during the invasion of Normandy. This left a deep impression on him and kick-started his passion for research and collecting artifacts with data on Chinese /Asian Americans in the military with a special interest in World War II. Today, it is the largest, privately-owned collection of this kind.

In 2020, to mark the 75th anniversary of World War II, Monty wrote and produced an unprecedented series of three online Chinese American Veterans events as well as producing the national historical short film “We Served with Pride, Road to the Congressional Gold Medal” for the Chinese American WWII Congressional Gold Medal program.  This work has culminated into a major program sponsored by the Los Angeles County Military Veterans Affairs; Duty, Honor, Country, Courage produced by Monty is the nation‘s largest AANHPI veterans retrospective exhibition dedicated to honoring the men and women who have served our nation since the American Civil War!

We Served With Pride, The Chinese American Experience In World War II documentary feature film Monty’s 2001 Emmy- nominated PBS documentary film will be relaunched as a newly remastered version with never-before- seen content for its upcoming 25th anniversary national re-release.  In 2026, this important film is currently being adapted into Stanford University’s SPICE program as the lead curriculum project for AANHPI studies which will be soon available to schools nationwide.

Since founding of the Chinese American GI Projectm the organization has produced more than 15 major exhibitions around the country including producing online webinars and multimedia presentations partnering with over 10 major historical organizations.

Monty’s mission is to secure the future of Asian American military history as a part of mainstream American history!
